The Royal Star Arcade holds historical significance in Maidstone. The building still retains many of its original features, however over time has ended up in need of maintenance and repairs. The current works are scheduled to last between seven and nine weeks. Please bear with us through this time of transformation, we apologise for any inconvenience caused and can’t wait for you to see the finished product!

WORKS TIMELINE

Scaffolding installed

15th August – The scaffolding install has been delayed due to poor weather conditions and is being rescheduled. A further update will be made shortly.

19th August – Due to works delays at KCC we cannot yet confirm the new scaffold install date. Further update will be made as soon as we know.

20th August – The scaffolding will be installed overnight August 21st.

27th August – Due to the serious incident on Maidstone High Street and subsequent closure of the area by the police the scaffold works will now be completed Wednesday August 28th. The rest of the schedule at present remains unaffected.

29th August – Scaffold complete, HSE sign off is tomorrow and works to frontage are now rescheduled to commence Monday 2nd September.

4th September – Due to the need to engage with the heritage team we are pausing work and resetting for Monday 9th September.

Repointing

9th September – We now have consent to move forward as per our letter last week. Noisy works have now commenced and are expected to continue for approximately 1 week. We are making every effort to control and minimise dust and debris and extra cleaning will be put in place at the high street end as required. We thank you for your patience whilst this process is undertaken.

17th September – Noisy / dusty works are now complete. Thank you for your patience with this inconvenient but necessary part of the programme. The entire frontage of the building was jet washed last night to get ready for the restoration work to commence. Pointing will begin immediately with the many woodwork tasks running in parallel on all levels of the scaffolding and the high street itself. The pace has quickened with the challenges of the early weeks firmly behind us and we are firmly on target. Thank you once more for the continued patience whilst we renovate the frontage of the building and do keep checking back for further updates. Regards Daniel
